O Holy Night | 100 Years of Nine Lessons & Carols

For many, Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without the sound of carols sung from King’s College Chapel, and each year over the festive period millions around the world enjoy the Choir’s A Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols. This two-part collection celebrates 100 years of the iconic service with a mix of brand-new performances and historical recordings not heard since the original BBC broadcasts.

This is my most favourite version of O Holy Night. One of the boys sings this with such vigour and conviction! I wish this music was available in D.V.D. version so we could hear and watch the choir, as it is herein displayed. If any such version exists, I would be very appreciative to anyone leading me to the source.

Was thinking of Sir Stephen Cleobury tonight, and especially remembering his work at King's. This clip from 2018 (and from his last Nine Lessons & Carols at Kings) is just sublime. Thank you Sir Stephen for your amazing musicianship and leadership over many years. Thank you to you, the choir and the organist in this clip for one of the most profound musical moments in the history of King's.
