The match broke the record for the most cards ever issued.

Referee Valentin Ivanov, issued a total of 4 red cards and 16 yellow cards throughout the match.

Ivanov's decisions led both teams to finish the game with 9 players.

Costinha and Deco were two Portugal players who had to leave the field.

On the other side, the Netherlands lost Khalid Boulahrouz and Van Bronckhorst.

After the match, FIFA President Sepp Blatter also spoke out.

Here's what Blatter said:

"I think the referee was not on the same level as the participating teams and players. I think the referee should have also been shown a yellow card."

The Battle of Nuremberg was ultimately won by Portugal with a score of 1-0.
