DIY Trolling Motor Drill Paddle

I spent about $15 to make this drill paddle. I'll test it on my Itiwit 3 Inflatable Kayak next week and post the video.

What a great instructive video. I have a fishing kayak, and have been looking for some kind of propulsion system. This is great. I built one ! Was pretty easy to do too. Thankyou for doing this video !! The slight change I made was making the pool noodle a bit longer on the high (drill) end - this allows me to rest the device on more kayak surface area. My boat is made out of 4x8 ft folded coreplast.
Fits hanging out of car trunk.
I need to order prop.

Something like this might work for the boat I'm building in Liloan, I want a reverse drive for my boat because you can't get marine gearbox here so boats only have forward, no neutral or reverse.

I have an inflatable sea eagle packfish 7 and this would be perfect for it. Something that can be taken apart and stored on a small fishing raft and I won't have to get worn out on the Wabash river

Thanks for the informative video. I made one pretty much as you described. I have an 8' Creek Boat, so I used a 6' all thread rod. I'm using a 20V Black and Decker Cordless Drill. It was difficult to guide the cigar shaped boat, the boat wanted to go sideways. I had better results when I laid the assembly on the Bow of the boat and ran it in Reverse. Can you possibly record a video of your paddle in operation?

That's looking pretty good.
But wouldn't the threaded rod eat up the PVC end caps? I imagine the fiction will might also generate enough heat to sort of melt those end caps.

Put a second nut on top of the other one and tighten them against each other. Better than a lock nut.

Any idea if using these woukd be considered "adding a motor" to a craft? I'm trying to figure out if I would have to register my craft if I use this. In Texas anything below 14 feet, and all rubber inflatables are exempt unless you add a motor, electric or gas. I just need to figure out what adding means in this context. If it's not attached to the boat, have you added it to it?
