Stand with your back against your horse's rib cage at the girth line, holding the carrot in the hand closest to the quarters encouraging your horse to bend around your body and down towards your knees/ankles depending on your horse and handlers' height. Keep the carrot in close contact with your horse's lips to discourage a bouncing motion and will encourage your horse to hold the stretch for the desired length of time. As the stretch becomes easier you can move slightly further down your horse's body.
Tip: you may need to use a small space to discourage your horse stepping around you rather than holding the stretch. To intensify the stretch, you can also hold the end of the tail and draw it round towards you.
