They were all broken. Denim shorts is so easy if you go for online vintage, this looks like a mess.
First the golden rules: 100% cotton, no distress, no frays. Nothing passes the golden rules. The no stretch is essential, as shorts with stretch gain 1-2-3 sizes over time without returning shape after washing. So a size 30 will end up being a size 32-33.
If you shop vintage, it is easy to get 100% cotton, you always get actual waist, actual rise and actual leg opening, and with that it is impossible to get a bad fit.
