Perhaps it's just me, but actually the Higgs mech isn't about giving masses to particles other than the W and Z bosons; that extra coupling to the quarks and leptons in his pullover is a quirk of the GWS theory, really
BTW, I believe a nicer analogy for the physics here is that classical demonstration of eddy currents using swinging metal plates ;)

I wonder if the density of the Higgs field varies accounting for a dark fluid (the combined effects of dark matter (attraction) and dark energy (repulsive)) above or below a given universal constant.
