The WRC is the FIA World Rally Championship, a tough motorsport using rally cars on real roads around the world. Watch the best rally drivers battle on gravel and asphalt roads with mud, rain, dust, ice and heat! Watch high speed action as the rally drivers power slide and drift round narrow corners, go flat out over a big jump or through a watersplash, handbrake turn round a hairpin, survive a big moment, or have a massive crash! Rally requires maximum attack and careful tactics to become world rally champion.

Each rally has timed sections called special stages, on closed roads. Drivers complete these stages as quickly as possible. A co-driver reads pace notes that explain the hazards ahead. Rally drivers use the same rally car to travel to each stage on public roads, following normal traffic regulations. The crew which completes all the stages in the shortest time is the rally winner. Championship points are won using the same scoring system as Formula 1. The championship is administered by Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), motorsport's world governing body.

Over 30 countries have hosted WRC rallies. Rally Monte Carlo, Rally Argentina, Rally Finland, Rally Portugal, Tour de Corse on Corsica, France, Rally Sardegna on Sardinia, Italy, Safari Rally in Kenya, Acropolis Rally in Greece, Rally New Zealand, Rally Australia, Rally Japan, Rally GB, Rally Catalunya, Rallye Deutschland, Rally Mexico and many more.

Some of the world's greatest drivers have won the FIA World Rally Championship for Drivers, like Colin McRae, Carlos Sainz, Walter Röhrl, Stig Blomqvist, Petter Solberg, Ott Tänak. The list of world rally champions includes many Finnish rally drivers like Juha Kankkunen, Tommi Mäkinen, Ari Vatanen, Marcus Grönholm, Hannu Mikkola. French drivers have had success with Sébastien Ogier, and 9 times world champion Sébastien Loeb. Famous drivers from other motorsports have come to try rally driving like Ken Block from Rallycross, and Robert Kubica and Kimi Räikkönen from F1.

Car companies compete for the prestigious FIA World Rally Championship for Manufacturers awarded to the most successful WRC constructor. Winners include Citroen, Hyundai, Volkswagen and Peugeot. Ford have had success with the Ford Escort, Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta when the M-Sport team won in 2017.
The 1980's featured the iconic Group B rally cars like the Lancia 037 and Delta S4, Peugeot 205 T16, MG Metro 6R4, Ford RS200 and Audi Quattro.

Mikko has a very smooth, fluid style. He sets up what to attack and what not to very well.

In my opinion the absolutely most perfect way to watch this is by opening another yt window and listening to:
1) Suit No. 1 in G Major (for Cello) by Johann Bach - Yo Yo ma
2) The Motion Makes Me Last - Eluvium
3) Sway - Spiritualized

Can we have an onboard of the Fredriksberg stage from Rally Sweden 2015? That would be great.

Great run, great upload, and great contrast to show how dreadful that back seat cam is.

@MrRocket2008 I agree with you. Especially on the bumper cam, which is totally useless, in my opinion. I also agree that the in-cam placement used to be very poor--this was something that could be noticed already in the previous-generation WRC cars where the cam got to be placed behind the cross of the roll-cage. In recent Hirvo onboards (Finland), the in-car shots are excellent, though. I like roof-cam, too.

Thumbs up if you prefer bonnet or roof camera view to that from the bumper cam.

@barsorrro Either way, the on-board camera placement on this car was poor, and the bumper cam, although a lot better, I find is too close to the floor. The best cams are the ones they have been using more recently with the cam on the roof, although for whatever reason in later vids they keep changing between the roof cam and the inferior side panel / light cam, but still not as bad as some of the in car cams.

what is the gear the car is into and what is the estimated top speed in this video?

Whats with the so high up in car camera. All we can see from that is the floor right in front of the car. If your gonna have an in car camera, either put it in a place so that you can clearly see out the front, or even better, put it on the drivers helmet.

@thestonecoldandy Well, that's unprecise. The cars may be roughly on par with GrB in terms of stage times, because, indeed, they handle much better (even the engine output is easier to tap on). But I'm sure they aren't _faster_--it's plain physics: the GrB cars were much more powerful and they were lighter. But my original point was about comparing the 2011 cars to those of the previous WRC era. I think the regs should have gone for a _bigger_ restrictor (and not a _smaller_ one).

@barsorrro As long as it's not that shocking back-seat cam they've been using recently I'm not bothered.

Firstly, why the rudeness? Secondly, I was actually referring to the WRC cars of the earlier generation (97--2010), and not to GrB cars. Thirdly, I wouldn't be so sure that today's 1.6 L WRC car would beat a GrB car _on any stage_. On twisty or very rough stuff, probably yes -- but in Finland? I have doubts. Most importantly: I was all about _the impressions_. The cars of today are quick, but they can't match the fierceness of the predecessors. Peace and a happy holiday :)

As much as this stage is beautiful, it's a bit sad, too, because -- to me at least -- it shows how underpowered the cars have become. Come on! Acceleration was not a word in the dictionary of the WRC cars of the past--they nearly swallowed straights and fast stretches like those in the Swedish Rally were their wonderful playground. Look at what we have there--a car really struggling to come up the revs at high speed, especially when the straight is even gently curved. Why the 33 mil restrictor?

barsorrro
Автор

@barsorrro oh come on don't be so sad. they are just as fast as the group b cars because although they have far less power they handle much better. look at the audi quattro it was extremely quick but audi's thing of putting the engine as far foward as possible meant it used to understeer very badly

@MrRocket2008 With all due respect, a helmet cam is one of the worst ideas possible--at least in making a rally onboard. A driver doesn't lose the system of reference on turning their head, because his getting onther sensory input from his or her body and the move head movement is coordinated with it. A camera view loses all reference when mounted on a moving object, and there's nothing but mess you can see: no sense of speed or distance.
