Ingenuity Helicopter Makes Amazing Discovery on Mars!

Together with the Mars rover Perseverance, a small, almost inconspicuous test object landed on Mars on February 18, 2021. Actually, the mini-helicopter named Ingenuity was only supposed to make a few test flights, but these small tests unintentionally turned into one of the greatest successes of Mars exploration.

Come on humanity. This is so much cooler than war !

I have been enthralled with NASA, and with exploration of our solar system for many years. I'm no rocket scientist, but I am a fairly well informed space technology fan. Your videos never disappoint. Full of facts and cool videos. Nice work.

These advances on Mars shows what we can do if we use our brains for exploration instead of developing more efficient ways of killing each other.

I am still amazed that Ingenuity carries a small piece of the Wright brothers flyer. Imagine being able to claim that you were the first to fly on two planets.

Actually researchers on Earth were fairly sure it would fly - after all they tested it in chambers withs the reduced atmosphereic pressure that is known for Mars. Since it flew here, it would fly there. The things not answered was how well, and how long it would work on Mars.

The thing that stood out to me was the rotor speed, which is 2800 RPM, or revolutions per minute, not revolutions per second as was stated in the video. I googled it after watching. The rest of the video was inspiring!

I love space exploration and at 65yrs old, have followed NASA's space missions: triumphs and tragedies all of these many years. The Mars missions have been extremely exciting and the accomplishment of Ingenuity is mind boggling. Way to NASA

What gets me is the fact that they can control those rovers in the helicopter from so darn far away and yet here on earth we still have cell phone dead spots what the heck man

love how they say the robot took a selfie, yet no extended arm with a shadow is present..? someone took the photo?

I remember being transfixed in front of the family B&W tv as Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon, and Neil Armstrong made his famous statement as he stepped onto the lunar surface "That's one step for man, one giant leap for mankind." - which generated a little bit of grammar controversy - The way he seemed to say it, he was saying "One small step for mankind; one giant leap for mankind. But I thought he clearly meant "One step for *A* man; one giant leap for mankind." - But back in those days the "talking heads" always had to have something to pick on- a little bit of grandstanding on their part. But it was an absolutely astounding feat of science, and everyone was totally blown away when it was televised, with the great Walter Cronkite narrating the whole thing.

That little heli is really something. I think our explorers will probably have something like that strapped on their backs to more easily move from one place to another quickly and with a view😊.

Seems to me that a good mission plan would be to build a team of rovers each with a dozen little helicopters and drop them off at various locations.

4 Days ago (when this video was published), scientists had already deduced that the assumption they had made about there having been water in those craters proved incorrect, and that there was no evidence of water (and actually evidence of a lack of water) to be found in Jezero Crater.

2:50 2, 400 revolutions per second?
Try 2, 400 revolutions per minute. RPM

Maybe future astronauts can pilot a helicopters to explore planet surfaces rather than rover type vehicles.
