SLP Change Makers: Diane Katakowski CCC-SLP and Jennifer Ryan CCC-SLP provide professional learning opportunities for the 400 speech-language pathologists in Oakland County, Michigan public schools. Diane and Jenn are change makers as their professional learning opportunities focus on engaged learning, especially regarding culturally and linguistically appropriate speech-language disability evaluations that move away from the use of standardized tests to identify a language disorder. Jenn and Diane share how their professional learning approaches are derived from data showing the under- and over-referral of students for related services and special education in the schools within that county. They also share what they have been doing within the County to address these issues and their effectiveness.
