Honestly the biggest issue with comp TF2 is how hard it is to get into it. No one will take new players and show them how to play. I've played since 2007 but I've never played comp, and when I tried joining the discords for some practice or to get into the scene no one wants to take time to play with a new player. It's a good ol boy club at this point which scares new players.

There are 2 ways for TF2 to recover from the Launch of Overwatch and loosing key players:
1) A Valve Funded LAN to advertise the game and to get people interesting into the game, as well as an agreement with Valve and the Competitive Community on an Official Rule set.

2) A complete and utter overhaul of the official competitive gamemode that not _only_ incites new players into getting to Competitive TF2, _but gets the Pros playing it as well._ Getting a Competitive mode that the Competitive Community endorses is a *big* step in the right direction, and I hope Valve does a good job.

I love tf2, I truly think it's an amazing game and I wish others could see that as well...if only valve put their shit together faster lol

Valve needs to start endorsing the comp scene alot more.

Slin i completely agree with tf2 having such a huge advantage in time and that i wish that valve put the effort into tf2 competitive before overwatch. I feel like the tf2 team should try doing community streams like warframe where they talk about issues and future content to the viewers. Mostly because it bridges the community. Also i feel as if streamers, competive players, or youtubers should do a roundtable with appropriate classes. There are Youtube videos called the pyro roundtable and spy roundtable . Maybe you guys can do weekly bring one class to talk about their weapons, and the other classes discussing the opposing classes. Itll help new players with countering, and veteran players learning something from the table as well .

Comp TF2 should be focused on retaining players. Changing the whitelists and rules to allow unnecessary unlocks will not draw in hesitant new players, and will only dissatisfy regulars. The games lifespan is at a state where growth won't go anywhere unless Valve does it, so the community should be without a doubt focused on the people still playing it. The goal should be keeping the scene alive with dedicated players, not trying to overreach and making unnecessary changes that only grows discontent with the old guard. You can draw in new players other ways, but the format(s) should not change.

Would be nice to see more competitive maps especially the koth format.

The thing that would bring TF2 back on the map would be a Valve funded LAN (100, 000$) ish. The more rewards people receive, the more incentive there is to go pro.

Personally I think the best way to get a good competitive scene for tf2 is to allow for it's entry barriers to be explained and less confusing.
I also think the ingame comp mode needs a overhaul and valve NEEDS to sponsor or help fund a pro tournaments because one of the major reasons a ton of pros left is because tf2 doesn't have nearly as much money as OW.

I haven't played tf2 in a while but I really hope the game grows and succeeds. Especially because I think OW needs a good competitor. On that note, as a Advent paladins player I can say it's the better game mechanically then OW but the devs lack of support and community participation holds the game back, making it not a viable game right now.

TF2 I think is the better game then OW, but it lacks the TLC that OW gets, especially in regards to competitive balance.

Hello, Mr. Slin . Thank you for your hardwork and putting lots of informative videos. Now before we go into all those details about competitive scene. I would like to address one particular issue. The TF2 team's 1st prority will be fixing match making(I have only 3.5k hours and I would nt enjoy playing with players who just started playing the game. Im lvl 123 tier 2 and maybe players based on my lvl should be in the same game); class limit in casual game play (if they dont want to implement it, atleast address that your team got already 5 snipers/etc. You can choose other class or just give some tips which class should be played in those situation for the team to win). Also, as normal human being we do look towards someone growing up. E.g. I wanna be tiger woods or etc. In case of tf2 most would like to be dominating like some top players ( banman, yomps, slemnish, rayman, drake) etc. Now, I cnt be either of them or atleast be in that lvl in 1 day.I get it.But there is a huge skill gap.If we all work together we can close the gap slowly. Face it would be a good platform for tht I assume, Im also sure ppl are working on it. Also, I would like to tell you Mr.Slin you are superstar, keep rocking :-)

as much as I'd love to see a thriving competitive scene in tf2 in the future, I feel like anything valve could do at this point would be too little, too late...

Could you talk about how adding a badge slot could benefit tf2 and it's comp scene? Maybe where esea comes out with a badge of their own and that is the highest, most prestigious badge, similar to platinum ugc badges. They could function as a secondary way of exposing comp to pubbers as well. Just a thought :)

The devs are shit. All Valve has to do to make Tf2 a huge success is literally just use all the money they make from crates in one day, and make it a weekly or even just bi-monthly tournament (the money they make from crates alone per day is around 5k -6k btw) with a 1-2 dollar buy in per person making them a huge profit after some probably small initial losses (which to be fair 6k to valve is not even a drop in the bucket).

3k for top team, 2k for 2nd, and 1k for 3rd. You get this going on literally 2-4 times a month the community is gonna thrive.

All the rest of the balance issues will eventually sort themselves out if the devs listen to their top players (they wont).

I'd love to share your optimism Slin but idk. TF2 may be a better game at its core, but IMO Overwatch is a better competitive game. When your primary competitive game-mode (6s) excludes more than half the classes and many of the weapons as well, can you really say that Valve's TF2 is a competitive game? 6s is so different to the rest of TF2 it might as well be a custom game-mode. I'd love to suggest changes but the TF2 comp community wants growth without change.

TF2 was designed around casual gameplay, and that's where it shines brightest, better than Overwatch. My worry is that by trying to be like Overwatch, TF2 will lose what make it unique, and become a second rate Overwatch instead.

The tf2 team should add a reward system for players who win a game of casual/competitive, promoting actual fking gameplay not dicking around as hoovy or killing the enemy team, but completely ignoring the objective.
