From what I remember reading, he didn't invent "dual wielding" for swords in Japan but is the guy most known for it.

Fun fact: Miyamoto Musashi’s first duel was against an experienced warrior, Arima Kihei, and he quickly took the victory by knocking Arima down and killing him. Miyamoto did this with only a wooden sword… and he was only 12 or 13 years old.

I think few people knows that miyamoto musashi rarely fought fair.
It goes to making the enemy lose focus to just jumping out of a bush and killing his opponent.

Fun fact: it was stated by Miyamoto Musashi himself that he never bathed, for fear that he could be surprise attacked unarmed.

He arrived 3 hours late, filthy and with the oar-made wooden sword to enrage Sasaki and his entourage. This worked and Musashi positioned himself with his back towards the sun to blind Sasaki and felt, when he killed his opponent, no glory, but instead that he burned a library with everything Sasaki had learned and loved, and retired because he wanted to never fight to the death again, and thus take another life.
