The Kobayashi Maru test was meant to be a test in failure, to force Star Fleet Captains to choose in a difficult decision between saving lives at the cost of war or sacrificing the lives of one ship to maintain a cease fire between the Klingons and the Alliance. Kirk cheated the system but he wasn't an incompetent man with a tool to help him through it, it was a man who hacked the system simply because he didn't like to lose. Later the test would be beaten again by Nog only because he negotiated trade deals and economic solutions with the simulation.

Ensign Rutherford literally used a T.A.B. (Tool-assisted Bot) to Any% a borg simulation with little to no combat experience...

But seriously, I have always found them terrifying. I wouldn't want them as a first opponent in a no-win scenario, I would have nightmares for weeks. And I rarely have nightmares.
