Which orange liqueur works best in a margarita? We are testing a basic margarita recipe with four different orange liqueurs. Cointreau, Patron Citronge, Grand Marnier, and Gran Gala to see which one we like the best.
We'll be using Espolon Tequila in all four as well to keep it similar.

I love my margaritas with Reposado Tequila and Grand Marnier. I call it the Old Man Margarita. The barrel flavor makes it mellow

Excellent comparison. I've tried all 4 and would agree that the Cointreau and Grand Marnier are the best choices. I'm currently trying Paula's Orange Liquor and A. De Fussigny Orange Liquor with margaritas and Old Fashioned cocktails. Have also been using candied orange rind syrup instead of the agave syrup which is a unusual changeup that goes well with Margaritas or an Old Fashioned.

Four of us also tried this same experiment to find which is our favourite Orange Liqueur for Margaritas. Besides the Cointreau & Grand Marnier we had Pierre Ferrand Curaçao and Clement Creole Shrubb. Three of the four of us preferred the Clement Creole Shrubb. But it is expensive so I only use it as a treat, not the every day Margarita. Ha! The other 3 are all good and are rotated depending on mood.
Enjoyed the Video.

Cointreau would be my personal favorite. Ive made them like this for years. Alot of restaurants will do the Gran Mariner but i dont think cognac mixes well with tequila

I've tried the last three and knew that the Grand Gala wouldn't make the final cut. I prefer Grand Marnier as well.

I personally like Hiram Walker Orange Curacao. Its cheap and low alcohol content but it has a good flavor, is sweet and not overpowering. Its so underrated!

I usually make margaritas with Cointreau. Gran Marnier tastes good but not so much like a margarita. I just got some Clémont Creole Shrubb which was great in my mai tai but somehow tasted a bit bitter in the margarita.
How to drink did a 25 drink matrix of tequilas and orange liqueurs which was interesting. It wasn't that one was always better but that some worked better with certain tequilas.

Another orange option would be Mandarine Napoleon Liqueur. It’s difficult to find in some locations, but carries a distinctive orange flavor that enhances many cocktails and is excellent by itself when sipped on crushed ice. 🍊

1. Cointreau is a triple sec.
2. Why did you mot use original recipe of 2 tequila, 1 orange liqueur, 1 lime juice? Your version will be too sweet.
