"You don't need good works to be saved, but if you are saved you will do good works"

We are not saved by our fruit, but our fruit is the evidence that we ARE saved, as it says in James 2:18

"...I will show you my faith BY my deeds"

I can totally relate to Frank when he says that he was raised in the catholic church and pretty much didn't know who Jesus was. Have the same experience growing up in Italy and going to Mass, I never got it! Then moved to the US, went to a protestant church and finally understood who Jesus is and what He did for us and received the Gospel!

We have more likenesses than but the differences are crucial

It's even simpler. You are saved by grace, and then you do good works as a consequence of being saved.

3:50 is a great summation.
‘You don’t need good works to be saved. But you WILL do good works if you ARE saved.’

I’m glad he doesn’t misrepresent the Catholic stance on this

“You’re saved by faith alone, but your faith is not alone”

This guy literally has a new quote for us every video.

It's good to see Dr. Frank Turek have a responsible view of a position he disagrees with, without caricaturing it. Speaking here as a Catholic. Good job, sir!

I'm 16 years living in Germany and most people my age don't know what the trinity is.

Jesus himself also said and I quote from Matthew 7:21 "Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of Heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven."

From what I can see, the protestants in this comment section seem very aggressive and quick to condemn the Catholic Church. As a Protestant myself, I used to do this. But then I realised I truly felt the presence of God in a Catholic as well as my Pentacostal church. Doesn't matter what church you go to, you need to have a heart that will readily receive the presence of God and a thirst to grow deeper in covanental relationship with Him. Seeking God and growing in the Word does not depend on the church. Although supporting each other as brothers and sisters in Christ is important, knowledge of scripture is still based on your own willingness to read the Word in your own free time. If you feel like you prefer a Catholic/Protestant church, then go for it! I believe the different churches we have now really help the expansion of God's Kingdom as some really don't like the way Catholics worship. And that's fine. Accept our differences and recognise we should be united as one body of Christ, instead of being quick to condemn and despise each other for scriptural differences.

"You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace."

I understand exactly what he meant. I went to a catholic school for 8 years and barely knew anything about God, Jesus or the bible. I was completely ignorant of the word of God. It wasn't until I got saved that my eyes were opened. Good works are the side effect of the Holy Spirit entering into you when you get saved, but the Good works did not save me. A sin debt is owed and it can ONLY be paid for by the blood of Christ.

Frank Turek is beyond all denominations, he really understands what the gospel is all about.

So my experience is just the opposite. I grew up protestant, became Catholic when I married, and found real depth of faith within that community. It doesn't matter which denomination you're "attending", it's when your heart is attending to the working of the holy spirit and the Word that you will find deeper meaning and faith.

On the grace and works issue. Yes, Paul in Ephesians 2 makes it clear it is Grace that saves, not works. But James 2 clearly states faith without works is dead. Are these contradictory? I don't believe so. Grace alone saves, but if you don't exercise good works you show no gratitude for, nor understanding of, that Grace. If your salvation by Grace does not drive you to do good works, you have not truly accepted the Grace you've been offered in your heart. If it does not transform you, you have not received it. Good works therefore become an integral and essential part of that covenant of Grace.

I just had this conversation with a couple of Catholic priests... My answer was the same as Frank Turek. Thank you Holy Spirit. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
