South Carolina is approaching our maximum natural gas pipeline capacity which could result in lost economic opportunity and decreased grid reliability. In addition to modernizing existing pipelines and constructing new pipeline infrastructure, the Pipeline Safety, Modernization, and Expansion Act of 2023 prohibits state and local governments from banning natural gas, gives FERC “backstop” permitting authority, and strengthens penalties for damaging pipelines.
