Rode announced some pretty awesome new gear for podcasting and streaming recently. I normally don’t make videos about equipment before I've been able to actually use it, but I thought this would be a good chance to share a few initial thoughts, along with a few personal hesitations.

The Podmic will always have a special place in my heart. I think you recommended it to me and it was my first "real" microphone. I have two, I don't use them anymore but I will not sell them - they hit me right in the feels 😂

I’m waiting for a podcast recorder that has 32-bit float. The fact that the Rodecaster doesn’t have 32-bit float internally is so strange to me. Right now, I use a Sound Devices MixPre 6 II and the Zoom F6 for this reason. In any case, despite the fact that you haven’t had a chance to get hands on with these devices yet, you did a great job of breaking it down as usual. Thanks!

Rodecaster "Pro-Tem Mini" lol ??!! 4 camera inputs and 4 xlr inputs?? Rode would rule the world with that product!!! Sign me up!!! I am even more excited about the new Podmic! Loving the all-black look and slimmer pop-filter!

This was better than I was expecting. Tom is so enthusiastic about Rode that I started to take his views with a grain of salt when it came to anything he'd say about Rode or a Rode competitor — fearing that he doesn't see any Rode product's downsides. Consequently, I *really* appreciate Tom's frank but kind (as always) comments in this video about his concerns with Rode. I feel I can trust Tom's gear evaluations more now. Great job; this video was definitely worthwhile.

I appreciate your thoughts on the new products Tom. I pre-ordered the Streamer X ... so, we will see. And the price was a bit high but I really need an all-in-one solution.

I think $399 is fair tbh. High cost but fair everything considered. One thing you're forgetting is the preamps in Rode products. Most interfaces cannot boost the signal from dynamic mics, not to mention everybody and their mama got a shure sm7b now. So you're saving cost on a cloudlifter or a fethead as well

It’s interesting to see your opinion on the podmic change over time. I still think it’s great with a windscreen, your video showing how similar it is to the sm7b with a windscreen was one of the main factors that got me excited about the mic. I guess you’re developing a more… ahem… refined taste. 😀

I think the biggest thing I took away from this video was that the Road pod Mike has that 5/8 inch and 3/8 inch microphone mount in its mount piece. I’ve had one for three years and never realize that, that is wicked cool. why aren’t other companies doing that?

The X is what I wish was cheaper. I don’t need to change my current set up, so I’d love this to be a on the road piece. Or, for me to use with my PS5. $300 is too much for something, not to be my primary tool. As per usual, great video!
