"It's not about the size of the budget, it's how you use it."

Thanks Dan, I needed to hear that today.

I think one of the reasons why the visuals look so amazing as they are depsite having an $80 million budget is because Gareth Edwards studied visual effects for his degree at the university I went to (he came in for a guest Q&A at my film course), which makes sense 'cause if you look at his films - Monsters (2010), Godzilla (2014) and Rogue One (2016) - he understands how those scenes are supposed to be shot, he understands scale, he understands how lighting works, and so on an so forth, which also makes it easier for the artists at ILM to do their jobs effectively as a result of him thinking of the VFX in mind throughout production.

What you said about original movies at the end is so true. People who always complain that “no original movies are made anymore” never actually bother to see any wholly original movies when they come out

When you see Dan excited for a movie you know it's something. Can't wait to see it.

Just saw it in imax, i loved it so much. Had me crying a bit at the end. Can’t wait to see what Edwards does next!

The fact that the entire film was shot on a Sony FX3 camera is quite impressive!

Been waiting a long time for this one. An original sci-fi film has been desperately needed by me as a genre fan

I am so happy to hear that you like this film. Since I watched the first trailer, I have been excited for this movie and I cross my fingers that this film will be a success.

Saw it Saturday with my 15 yo and it was amazing. The child was the best part. The emotion she evoked was stellar. This takes me back to Bladerunner days when we went in blind and just enjoyed the world building experience. It will become a cult classic for sure.

i’m glad he got a chance to do his own vision. it’s so hard to judge a director and his crews ability based when they’re shackled to an existing IP with possessive fans

So glad to hear your review. I absolutely love Rogue One, so I have had great anticipation for this movie. Cannot wait to see "The Creator"!

As Edwards has said being apart of the VFX industry for nearly a decade helped him not only shoot this knowing how the effects would be used and how it will come out in the end.

I saw it on Monday at the press premiere in Bangkok and I loved it. And everyone who was there loved it. It is an amazing movie and I love how it very cleverly took unexpected turns. You mentioned how Lucas repackaged The Hero's Journey, in this film Edwards has recpackaged The Journey And Return motif. Also, a mention to the supporting cast, the minor characters who popped up throughout the film, some of whom I know very well, they all seemed real and invested in the story, and that made the world seem real, along with the stunning locations the crew chose to shoot in. This is epic filmmaking done right.

Saw it twice in 2 days. Nicely done alternate reality. Very original as a package, nice effects and acting. I am sure some good bits ended up on the cutting room floor but I'd watch a future extended edition without hesitation. Nice piece of entertainment.

This movie was simply beautiful and amazing, I had still not been sold on JDW, but he clearly excelled in this movie. The cinematography and VFX of this movie are just breathtaking. I saw it with my cousin, and speaking after the movie, I told him, " if u ever think, that this movie is not shot beautifully, or the VFX is not astounding, watch the baby scene in Flashpoint and get back to me". 😅 To whoever is reading this, PLEASE go, and WATCH this movie, u won't regret it!!

I absolutely loved this movie. Yes it was visually stunning but I found myself extremely emotionally affected when I was leaving the theater. More than any other movie I've seen this year. The ending got me good.

Dear Dan!; could you consider creating a tribute to the late and amazing Kevin Conroy? He passed away last November, and was the sole reason I got into acting. I have a voice acting background and there are some preconceived notions that it's not as demanding as regular acting; but the vocal training itself and perfecting the craft may take more time than any acting school. l feel like he's a bit underrated as Batman (ditto Mark Hamill as Joker) and even non existent in the conversation. PS. You almost saw me as Leon in those new Resident Evil games :)

I had the day off on Monday, and went to see The Creator. There were only 3 other people in the theater. Reddit was ripping the movie apart, but I thought it was really good. The visuals and FX were so much better and well thought out than almost anything I've watched this year. Great review Dan, as always.

Thank you as always Dan. You make my job a lot easier here at the theater for scheduling based on your reviews and news.

This is awesome to hear that you loved it - I hadn’t even heard of this film until I saw a few critics like you reviewed it, and the Cinematography you have shown immediately interests me. And then your fervent endorsement of the execution of the story puts me over the top

I can’t go to the film in theaters, I just can’t (quarantining because I care for ill family members and infant child) but I will definitely watch this on PPV as soon as it is available so I can do my part to support original SciFi
