Picked Doom offlane the other day. Then our mid matchup ended up being invoker against their last pick broodmother. Doom was literally our only hero that could do anything aoe, and we decided if the brood was at all competent, she would crush invoker, and so we swapped lanes.
I DO NOT PLAY MID.
But with maxing scorched earth first the lane was super rough for brood. He picked up a few kills, but I got so much free farm in the lane that it wasnt a detriment.
What I am saying, is that not only is doom great in the offlane, it’s a FLEX. Never forget that.

I would actually make devour level 2, making your regen from 3 to 8, it more than DOUBLES your regen, quadruples the gold you take, from 20 to 80. And as you said, it's a spike. So I'd probably take it on level 4 or 5.

Speeed, I played 2 Doom matches yesterday and used your tips, I won both. However, I didn't get a single neutral creep ability/spell despite devouring all the units with active abilities. Was it a bug or did they remove the spell gain in 7.23e ??
