There are many free impulse loader, no need to buy one if you are on the cheap.
Shitload of IRs too, not to mention you can create your own by EQ matching any kind of source.

2:43 Probably should have went into more detail WHY you have you speaker cab plugged in ?? Don't wanna go blowing up your transformer :P

The Micro Dark is perfect for this, effects out into the interface and since its got a solid state power section it doesn't need to be connected to a speaker cabinet

This technique works fantastic with amps that have both channel and master volume controls. As such, I've been recording my AC30 this way for years. If you're really saavy, you can technically apply compression, EQ, and reverb to process your preamp signal the same way an Impulse Response does.

"The sound of your recorded preamp will be - *_pseudo-Italian hand gestures_* - absolute garbage."

if you're just getting into impulses and don't want to invest money in a pack yet, I reccomend "God's Cab" by wilkinson audio. it's basically a handful of general use, common cabs, but in a lot of different formats so you can try out a lot of different impulse loaders for comparison without getting sample rate conversion issues

Massive thanks for this tip, Colin. I never thought of taking a signal from the FX loop, but I did it with my JoYo Zombie and the sound was just stunning. And good shout on 3 Sigma. Their impulses are definitely an upgrade from Catharsis.

I like Nadir impulse loader from Ignite Amps.

Some amps have controls that are post pre-amp, so the sound might not be as desirable. I believe the Peavey 6505's presence and resonance controls act like this, and those make up a big part of the amps character.

I disagree with using a purchased impulse loader. There are a ton of great free ones out there. Rosen Digital has their impulse loader available for free, but you have the option of purchasing impulses from them. You can even use a convolution based plugin (Such as a convolution reverb) with an impulse loaded and it can work in a pinch. The Poulin plugin's are also worth considering since they have a free IR loader as well as amp simulations. Great job on the video and I'd like to see more video's with content like this.

Considering the thing at 1:15 about still having to have a speaker connected, can anyone tell me if this would work with a solid state combo amp? I use a Peavey Bandit 112 and I love the sound of the amp and want to experiment with recording it but obviously don't wanna break it.

I plug my Peavey 6505mh into a 16 ohm torpedo captor, and use Impulsive to run the Glenn Fricker producer pack from Rosen Digital, and it sounds phenomenal.

I'm expecting the "I liked the sound before loading the impulse better". Because there is ALWAYS that guy

great video but could you please explain how to re amp a di track using a real head and a cab ir?

is there any 'quality' advantage/disadvantage to using a torpedo live digital loadbox over recording from your fx send? If not, how is there a market for digital loadboxes?

What about sending the signal after the effects chain as a direct box att the end of the effects loop on live stage situations? The thing is... Sending the signal to PA system would sound different than the sound produced by ALL the settings above + the cab loudspeaker.

A question. The preamp signal is going into a cabinet impulse response. So there is nothing simulating the power section of the amp? That part also adds to the tone, doesn't it?
