Areas like Data Science, AI and Machine Learning The Best Option is Python

I see a lot more backend jobs for Python, the Go or Rust.

The idea behind Python is that the development speed is more important than the speed at which the application runs

Python is learned in 1 week and is a VERY good tool to have in your tool belt, even if we only consider personal productivity. You can automate a lot of boilerplate work with python

Guys, stop saying that python is good for machine learning, cause probably machine learning is not good for you. When you try to find a job in machine learning (after looking in an ocean), you will find a job that requires 5+ of working experience of things you cannot even understand what is being required. While web development you will find html, css, js. Even data analytics, many times you will find SQL, Power BI, Excel, Tableau and won’t find Python over there.
Also, Python is extremely overrated as well as data science. Ppl think data science is sexy and goes in mass studying for each even when the job asks for a master degree. When you go to a class of data analytics, you will get SAS, R and Python, but SAS and R are basically only for that or other types of math stuffs. You should avoid learn Python at all your costs cause when you consider it as you know programming language, they think you know English. You copied codes that are ready to give you an output to analyze data. Or then just alternate the code a little bit to tune hyperparameters. Python is too easy. What is hard about is, is the linear algebra, but that one, or it is solved from a model that is already made, or you need to make a model and, for that, you won’t be an entry level person.

well actually most of the time companies gonna hire not the one who uses "the best framework" or "the best language" but the one who uses the language the company already uses. Unless you are going to start a proyect from zero working on a startup most companies already have a product that has been in the marker for years and even though it might need improvements you can't really afford to remake it from zero.

Few companies are hiring for data scientist without experience.
From those that are hiring for data analysis, very few requires python. When they require a programming language, many times they ask as the second option as: " a programming language as C++ or Python " or " a programming language as R or Python "

Im self taught for over 10yrs now and I know Java, c#, JavaScript, python, and frameworks like react, Django, and flask. It’s hard af for me to get a job as a SWE… I’m in the middle of learning DevOps now though and hoping that’ll be my ticket in.

As a human being its always better to be able to do many different things at relatively inferior level than being able to be professional at one thing. Versatility is one of the most practical and beneficial things.

Python is like that - very versatile and beginners wont need to do one specific thing at the high level anyway, so learning it is always an optimal choice.

Thanks Tim for bringing in the "doctrine of analogy"

I disagree, why didn't you mention how python is the best for machine leaning and AI

You really should have mentioned it strength as well, not only it weakness

What about ML? Does it fit in this category?

but if youre a begginer and would like to see all this field and in the future choose one to focus in? woutdn't be good learn python to see all this areas? or it is better to learn in one target language about what you want.

Yeah, that's the whole point of a general language...

Python outside of Data Science is a good introduction to get a taste of what field you might want to specialize in

Hi Tim,

Which programming language do you recommend?

It's not really true. Sure, I've never seen somebody looking for devs to make phone apps or games in python. But web dev? Its one of the most popular languages.
