It would’ve been the most tense season since 2012 if Ferrari and Seb put their act together on the 2nd half. The amount of strategic failures really didn’t help Seb’s mentality.

What Lewis said in that Mexico interview perfetcly explains why Seb and Ferrari didn't make the title that year. When you're in a title fight, especially one as close as this one was, you simply cannot afford to make mistakes, as small and unimportant they may look to the eye.
Seb and Ferrari were off for a incredibly strong start, but a series of mistakes, small and large ones, both by the team and by Seb himself, really hurt them in the whole campaign and cost them the title in the end. Not only things like Seb skating into the barrier at Hockenheim while leading the race, also the moves on Verstappen at Suzuka and Ricciardo at CotA which pretty much stripped him of a bunch of podium finishes and a good bag of points in that season.
