Cows are ruminants, they chew the grass multiple times, and put it in in their 4 part stomachs and process grass quite efficiently. Horses do not, and need more grass (or more nutritious food) to function. Deer eat leaves as much as they eat grass, and their much smaller digestive system is set up so they can run away at a moment's notice, something you can't do if you have huge sphincter muscles.

Besides, no atheist I know would "preach" like that unprovoked, much less to a child... Religious people, however, are known to do just that...
