My Lab Setup:

Welcome back to another video in the NetWorker training series. In this video we will be learning about Data Domain device on NetWorker, we will look at how to create and manage a DD device.
What is deduplication?
Data deduplication -- often called intelligent compression or single-instance storage -- is a process that eliminates redundant copies of data and reduces storage overhead. Data deduplication techniques ensure that only one unique instance of data is retained on storage media, such as disk, flash or tape. Redundant data blocks are replaced with a pointer to the unique data copy. In that way, data deduplication closely aligns with incremental backup, which copies only the data that has changed since the previous backup.
There are 2 main types of deduplication
File level deduplication

Block Level deduplication
Data Domain Boost (DD Boost) software provides advanced integration with backup and enterprise applications for increased performance and ease of use. DD Boost distributes parts of the deduplication process to the backup server or application clients, enabling client-side deduplication for faster, more efficient backup and recovery.

DD Boost integration features
- DD Boost and data deduplication
- Data Domain cloud tier
- Data Domain high availability support
- Client Direct data handling
- DD Boost device storage
- DD Boost synthetic full backups
- DD Boost in-flight encryption
- DD Boost clone operations
- NetWorker Management Console (NMC) management of DD Boost operations
- DD Retention Lock

Do’s and Don’t
- Encrypt data that needs to be backed up to the data domain.
- Compress Data that is to be backed up to the data domain.
- Select only DD Boost devices for the pool. Do not mix DD Boost devices with other types of storage devices.
- Avoid creating a lot of devices on the same data domain.
- Avoid deleting DDboost devices

Data Domain Management
Create a DD Boost device using Device creation wizard from the NMC.
Command to label a DD Boost device
nsrmm -lv -f device_name

Command to mount a DD device
nsrmm -mv -f device_name

Command to unmount a DD device
nsrmm -uv -f device_name

Command to soft reset a DD device
nsrmm -Hv -f device

Hi, Thanks for such a wonderful channel.
Kindly explain networker and data domain encryption with configurations steps. Is encryption enabled in clone controlled replication.

Hello, I have a small issue hope you can help me, In Networker 9.1 there are many save sets with "Recycleble" (Retention is expired) for long time and it is not removed, eventhough data domain clearing process is executed. Is there a way to manually delete them ?
What if I totaly delete the device form NW ?
