PRIME GO... Again? Denon DJ PRIME GO+ Review | Beatsource Tech

The PRIME GO from Denon DJ was a unique product when it first launched back in 2020 - a fully featured, battery powered standalone DJ system, which was small enough to fit in a backpack. Nearly four years on, the company have just announced it’s successor, the PRIME GO+.

It may have minimal hardware changes, but do the upgrades to Engine OS mean it’s still a good buy in 2024? Mojaxx gives it an in-depth review, and checks out the new features in Engine 4.1.0, on the new episode of Beatsource Tech.

The support for USB hubs is one of the best secrets about the Denon DJ gear, which our crew has absolutely taken advantage of when we discovered it. Super nice for like 6 of us at once to just hook up our USB drives into a single Prime Go during a jam at a picnic.

PRIME GO was my best purchase and it keeps improving, and Engine team charges no extra fee or subscription for their products. I really love this approach and that should be respected. Thank you Denon DJ & Engine DJ team for your hard work and dedication :)

I have the original Prime Go, best piece of hardware I ever had as a backup unit. The new one seems like a solid unit for someone who doesn't have the original one.

I have the original Prime Go. If they added mic eq I would probably buy this new unit. After 2 years the original still works great!

Thaha! I had a feeling that an upgrade would come soon... I literally just bought the Prime Go (along with a Decksaver! Must have!) and a awesome skin to match my other gear (recommended too as it protects aaand can improve readability in bad lighting)... I feel relieved that the Update of Engine 4.1 brings all the essentiall upgrades to the OG too! (Bluetooth out Option and Slipmode being my spotlights). What an awesome machine that I've been watching since the release of it nearly 5 years ago! Thanks for this great review! 🎉Edit: I am happy to say that I do not feel the need to upgrade. That 3 to 3, 5 hours battery comparison was great!

That Blue Monday edit killer!! Love my original Prime Go and use it for the reasons you do as a mobile DJ; ceremonies, cocktail hour, small corporate events, backyard bbqs. Beatsource is great for streaming and with the Omni Duo, it wasn’t enough to roll over. My Rekordbox library can easily be put on an SD card and play it with the original Prime Go. Like the new color for sure.

Thanks, Mojaxx! The loss of the Ethernet port seems like a step backward for anyone using Ableton Link or StageLinq to collaborate with lighting or video friends, but maybe people who are doing that are doing it with the bigger consoles or mixers.

I have owned the Prime Go for a little over 2 years. I absolutely love it. The first weekend I owned it i used it for over 8 hours at a wedding with zero hick ups. I now use it for all my smaller bar gigs and wedding ceremonies. Only thing I wish they would have added was the ability to route effects to the microphones. I also use this at Karaoke gigs with my laptop.

The fact that this thing supports USB hub and USB ethernet adaptor surprise the hell out of me

I don't understand the DJ industry, why in the world isn't Denon DJ accepted professionally, to the extent that Pioneer is? I mean the hardware is put together so well and really is just as good if not better than Pioneer from a software perspective.

For an old skool DJ, The Prime Go is a great system to work on. I have my Thump Go with me when I travel, and both are so convenient for me when I spin. The battery life leaves something to be desired but overall, the Prime Go is a great system to use. I've had mine since they came out and I'm very happy with it. Thanks for the comparison. I thought the same thing. No need to upgrade. I wish that you can do custom loops like on the SC5 & 6000. Once that can be done, I will be the happiest...About the USB. Fooling around I connected 2HD's on there and it worked...Who knew?

The whole of the first few minutes sounded like Mojave was talking about the MPC One Plus! I mean the removal of Ethernet but ability to use a USB hub...

"I throw on the Decksaver, then throw it in the bag and I'm covered". I saw what you did there Mo'! LOL

The prime 2+ with a larger screen and traktor control would be insane. It has to be next!

If I only have one device, this would be it, say no more, it literally pretty much does everything. and its a bargain!

I wish there was a way to see the battery level indicator when it’s being used in Computer mode,

Thinking of using this with some Ibiza Wave 10 speakers at small arrangements on the beach, outside harbour, veranda or whatever occasions where power isn't avaliable
