My father was a GM employee. He was on a team of employees who were tasked with developing the heads-up display and push buttons on the steering wheel. I was a kid when the Cutlass was being developed. I remember him coming home and telling me about the cool tech on the car. I am so excited about this project. If you decide to sell it, I would love to buy it for my dad! It was a car he always wanted, but it was never in the cards for him.

Love that you love this car!

Quick tip on the stalling condition; You may have fixed it with the ICM as they were prone to do that, but if the problem resurfaces it may actually be cold solder joints in the PCM. If you encounter the issue again, tap the PCM with the palm of your hand while it is running. If it alters the way the engine runs, the PCM needs replacement. If that happens, don't forget to take the PROM (some refer to it as MEMCAL) out of the original to swap into the new one. The palm tap test was actually issued by a GM service bulletin/service information. If I remember correctly, the PCM is on the passenger side frame rail, forward of the strut tower. If it's not there, it will be under the dash near the glovebox.

Another place that liked to cause driveability issues was the intake gaskets. Due to the extreme angle of the intake to head surfaces, the intake bolts sometimes like to loosen up and the gasket will get damaged causing a vacuum leak.

Lastly, when the oil pump drive seal leaks (if it doesn't now, it will!), you are supposed to remove the rear cylinder head to replace the seal for it. BUT!! If you get a Chevy 350 distributor gasket, scarf cut the gasket, slather the gasket with liquid teflon sealant, lift the oil pump drive up enough to get the distributor gasket around and under it, then seat the drive back down and tighten the clamp, it will solve the leak without head removal. The oil pump drive is under the throttle body and is where the distributor used to be on the old 2.8/3.1L carbureted or throttle body injected version of this engine. You will know it is leaking when there is oil all over the top of the transmission.

Sincerely, ex-Oldsmobile dealer tech 1997-2001.

More cars like this please. I'm sure the community agrees. There are so many underrated and under represented cars out there that deserve some attention!

This stuff is the reason why I love this channel. As a parent of three young children I really respect the way you include your kids. Working with my father when I was young shaped my entire career as an adult.

As a former 3.4 DOHC owner (93 Lumina Z34) before you do any more high RPM pulls, CHECK THE TIMING BELT. 60-100k miles is when they give up, and even though it's technically a non-interference engine, with any wear the valves can kiss. Then it's a way bigger problem. Save yourself the head and heart ache. Check the timing belt!

Alex is the kind of guy you know you can be friend with in real life. A tiny bit awkward, quite funny, very genuine and sincere, super kind and generous. A killer combo of characteristics❤

I am an electrical engineer. The white grease is thermally conductive. If there was none, you don't get a good bond with the heat sink. The ignition control module will run hot if there is no heat sink grease to the metal heat sink.

Happy 40! My name is Ben. Love the content and your energy. Pay attention to your body after 40, keep those hips mobile and your core strong. The car community needs you to keep this up for many years to come!

This car was legendary on the NASCAR tracks and the Drag Strips in its racing body shells. In NASCAR it was driven by many of legends such as Harry Gant in the Skoal #33. But on the drag strip it was every bit as famous with pro stock drivers like Warren Johnson and his son Kurt, Larry Morgan, Mark Pawak, and Steve Schmidt. And even the funny car drivers like John Force, Cruz Pedregon, Jim Epler, Gary Densham, Del Worsham, and Jerry Caminito.

When I 1st started watching your channel, I thought that you were all about the "SUPER CARS". But I must say that I'm impressed that you're buying, and fixing regular daily drivers for us regular guys. Great job, great video 👍 🎉

These mid 80s to mid 90s fwd gm cars were some of the coolest cars ever made. The little editions like these are so cool, the turbo gps, the manual cars, the awd 6000

I ❤ this new project. My first car was a red '95 Cutlass Supreme. The body was just about identical. That undercarriage is begging for the dry ice treatment, please do that on a future video. I bet it would be the only '91 Cutlass to ever get the dry ice treatment. I'm so happy your keeping this one, it's such a rare gem.

Man this takes me back! My ‘92 Lumina 3.1 had these exact same issues! Starter would click until it eventually found a clean enough spot on the solenoid disc! ICM left me stranded on the freeway on my way to work, then wouldn’t start after work one night, worked fine the next morning though. I never fully trusted that car to NOT leave me stranded!

I can appreciate a 1992 Olds Cutlass because my family owned a Ciera wagon of that vintage: red with red interior, rear-facing 3rd-row seat, 3.3L V6, 4-speed automatic, and extra-cost "Rallye" instrument cluster.

I remember a friend I worked with had one. Black with the gray interior, obviously not the manual special edition, but what I remember most were those back seats. They blew my mind.
