Regardless of the release points, both balls are subject to gravity! By the time the ball reaches the plate, it is moving downward. Even the rise ball at some point, ceases to rise, and is more visual than actual. I mean by that, it drops less, and the brain doesn’t get what it expects. There are pitchers through spin rate, that create a similar effect!

But scientists will tell you that one has to generate an almost impossible amount of spin and speed together, to get an object the weight of a softball to rise after traveling 40+ feet! Therefore, the widely held myth that one must swing down in softball, leads to bad teaching. One must still get the barrel turned behind, to get turned up through the ball to match the ball path. Baseball may require a slightly steeper path because of the downward angle, but maybe the faster speed may negate that.

LOL, the main difference is softball is embarrassing, and baseball is not.
