LIVE: Newegg AI PC Builder vs. GamersNexus

WE WILL READ OCCASIONAL/RANDOM SUPERCHATS THIS STREAM.
Newegg has a new ChatGPT style PC building "AI" that can take chat prompt inputs and convert them into PC build lists. We're going to test how well it can design different types of computers, like gaming PCs, editing workstations, and more. Newegg has an inherent bias to sell parts, but even with that aside, we expect the PC builder 'AI' to at least deliver on the marketing of configuring a compatible list of at least quasi-competent parts. The tool is new and may not be fully trained yet, but with the help of chat, we're going to train it!

How did you feel about the actual functionality of this thing? Is Newegg trying to actually put in effort and make a real tool or is this just a marketing gimmick to grab the current trend? What do you want to see us try next in a stream?

I don't think its actually an AI I think its a randomizer that picks a part list thats kinda around your price point (most of the time not even). It also heavily favors parts that Newegg clearly wants to dump like the focus g and hyper 212.

It is either a outright lie with AI label to get in on the current trend, since it is a regular 2010 chatbot you always see (and ignore) on shop sites. Or the sophisticated neural network part comes when it calculates profit margin based on storage volumes, biometric data from your camera and microphone, and all the data purchased from data collection companies.

Gotta say, I really appreciate GN taking the time to use the chapter times- even going back into livestreams to do it. I imagine it takes a bit of time to do, but it's really awesome to see someone putting the effort in!

36:35 gotta agree these AI chat integrations need a checkbox and optional comment box so you can add your input to help guide or train it. Like the case is too expensive for the build, the cooler price is not right, too expensive compared to better options.

haven't watched yet, but I'm guessing the 'AI' behind this is about as advanced as "picked item A therefore recommend item B" canned responses

Gimmicky nonsense. Reminds me of old chatbot AI from like 2012. It had specific topics it would always cycle back around to focusing on pretty much no matter what prompt you gave it. A randomizer is a much better tool. A link to PC builders tiered build list would be more useful.
Edit: Cleverbot was the name

Personally I would watch any case review GN does. Even for a case I have no interest in or that is older, case reviews are some of your best content.

The cooler master 212 EVO is most likely on such high price for the sweet -60% discount tag the month later to appear.

I tried a bunch of prompts but wasn't able to get it to build me a small form factor PC. I tried keywords like "SFF, " "ITX, " "mini ITX, " or even specific case models that I verified were in stock. It just kept giving me the same handful of full ATX towers.

I really struggled to get it to recommend anything over a 30-series. "Best PC for gaming", "top of the line gaming system" etc were all 30-series cards. It wasn't until I added "Over $4000" that it finally included a 4090.

Tried to quickly scroll through video. Not sure if you tried this but a "Best Bang For The Buck" would be the ultimate test I would think.

If it was capable of knowing or looking that up.

Trolls just be trollin. Ignore the peanut gallery. Loved the motherboard rant. Genuine content is appreciated. When you see crap, please keep calling it out. Thanks :)

Since you mentioned it on the stream, I really wish you had released the G500A review; I especially appreciate your in-depth case reviews. I'm planning my new build and the G500A is one of the potential cases I got my eyes on.

I love it .. make a voice or a person not to ask if they want to talk to a real person but more like tips and tricks we all KNOW.. that are within the confines of the business model.

it is allowed to check internal inventory markup margins so that you get most of their old stock before it goes to clearance

I did think it was kinda fun that when building the HTPC, it went for a racing green colour scheme all of a sudden and had aligned the case/PSU/cooler. This doesn't really seem like much of an AI otherwise, it's really just relying on the buttons you can click below the text entry field. You'd be better off using regular ChatGPT or even Bing's chat and getting part recommendations, and then buying them.
