Poor in Spirit? Yours Is the Kingdom of Heaven

Показать описание
In this Words of Grace excerpt, Benjamin Winslett explores the blessing Jesus attaches to being "poor in spirit"—theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Using a vivid analogy of a beggar invited into a king's house, he beautifully illustrates the spiritual joy and hope found in Christ for those who recognize their need for Him.
“So, what is, in specific, the blessing that Jesus attaches to being poor in spirit? Theirs is what? Theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Now, speaking purely in a temporal context, if you are a beggar—dirty, homeless, hungry, with tattered, insufficient clothing—you’re going to be cold in the winter. You’re wandering the streets, you’re in danger, you’re exposed to the elements.
And suddenly, a king sees you and invites you to come into his house and to enjoy his food, his drink, his clothing, his bathhouse, and a comfortable bed—all for free. Well, you’d be overjoyed. To a beggar, being brought into a king’s house to live for free forever would be incredible.
And this is exactly what we have experienced in Christ. If you’re a sinner who knows they’re bankrupt, rotten, low-down, and dirty, who deserves God’s wrath, and you know your only hope is in Christ, God blesses you with the life of spiritual enjoyment in His house.”
