The lyrics are a pretty free adaptation of a Norwegian medieval ballad titled “Møya i ulveham” (TSB A 19).
*A couple of notes on the cultural background on which the song is built.
- “Wolf pelt”: in Nordic folklore, it was common belief that wearing the enchanted skin of a given animal would make the person turn into that animal, until the fur was removed. If the magic cast on the skin was a curse, then the person wearing it could hardly remove the skin on their own. That of humans-turned-animals by wearing their pelt is an ancient myth, that goes as far back as the Viking age, where “úlfhéðinn” (“wolf-pelt”) was one of the names by which berserkers were called.
No transcription in runes because the song is in Norwegian, so any transcription in runes just wouldn’t make sense.
Any suggestion and/or observation is warmly welcome.
