I think an important aspect to it as-well are the jobs you take on. If you’re confident in the welds and know the material you’re golden. Just don’t take jobs you aren’t ready for even if they do open doors. Likely if you take the job while knowing you can’t do as efficiently and skillfully as someone else don’t do it it’ll just as easily close the doors as they open them.

I have 3 years experience now I’m 24 I’d like to start getting a rig together and go out on my own in the next couple years. I’ve got a lot of experience doing all types of railings and stairs and forging stuff and structural steel and equipment repair but I’m still learning everyday, I’m going to keep getting paid to learn for now.

So how does one get experience for “mobile welding”? Most welding jobs are either manufacturing or fabricating the same shit over and over. You can’t find someone to work for mobile welding and you run into so much different stuff while mobile welding that you won’t find at a “normal” welding job.

I learned more in 2 weeks on the job than I did in 2 semesters of welding class. No replacement for experience!

I only have 3 years of experience welding and went to welding school. Mobile welding is A LOT of what I like to call “shit work”, nothing prepares you in welding school to hold a piece up while on ur back and weld with one hand, that’s real life experience, and I got that for fixing various shit for people over the years, and as such my business is popping off. I’ve seen numerous people who can do 5g, 6g pipe but can’t fabricate for shit and can’t do any real world welding and thus don’t have the skills to start their own business despite being 10x the welder I am and 10x the experience.
