Cloud Cost Optimization: My Experience

As a 10+ year AWS user, I'm passionate about cost-effective cloud usage. Through various projects, I've consistently achieved 20-80% cost optimization with these key strategies:

Rightsize Dev/QA environments: Run them only during business hours (8x5) and use appropriately sized servers based on actual load. Avoid replicating production configurations in Dev/QA.
Automate server management: Implement lifecycle rules and auto-shutdown features for services like SQL Analytics, SageMaker, and S3.
The 80/20 Rule: Focus on High-Impact Areas

The most important principle is to prioritize optimization efforts. Start by identifying the 20% of services that contribute to 80% of your AWS bill. Focus on optimizing these areas first for maximum impact.
