WA Corals in Crisis

Показать описание
Western Australia has some of the most unique, pristine and toughest coral reefs in the world. Some of our corals can even cope with exposure to air and erratic temperature swings.
Sadly, even our strongest corals are feeling the stress from the extreme and prolonged high ocean temperatures which arise from climate change.
Global rising sea temperatures are causing our once-pristine reefs to bleach and even die. There’s hope for them to return to their former glory, but only if water temperatures stay stable for long enough for them to recover.
So what can we do to save our reefs? People can support local management efforts like ensuring good water quality and regulating fishing. Taking actions to mitigate or slow climate change would also be a big boost for coral reef recovery. Reducing our carbon footprint and moving to more renewable energy resources will help ensure these magnificent ecosystems will remain for future generations to enjoy.
