I was born in Asia. Our family was so poor and Spam was a luxury that we ate once a year. It was the poor man's ham in Asia. I could afford anything in U.S. today, yet Spam is still one of my favorite with rice and egg.

We always have Spam in our pantry and food storage. We enjoy it every so often. I slice it and lay it on a baking sheet and put it in the oven for about half an hour. It gets nice and crispy and this also helps to render much of the fat out. We would never make this our food choice, but I love me a Spam burger on a bun with ketchup. Yeah, I know Weird. I personally cannot stomach Treet, which we say is not a treat at all. Everyone is going to have their own preference. But in any event, canned meat is a nice thing to have on the shelf because you never know what will happen. Truthfully, these are not cheap! So the budget thing just goes out the window for people who will cry that you are targeting the poor by bashing their food options. I love this little series you have come up with. I think we all should have a good look at our food!

Have you tried the Spam Lite ? According to the can it has 50% less fat, 25 % less sodium and 33 % fewer calories. It is much less salty tasting and fries up just as well as regular Spam....I prefer the Spam Lite taste over the regular Spam.

I have eaten both.

Spam is saltier, but is made with more pork and ham, than treat is. The saltiness is from the sodium nitrate used to cure the meat. Your video shows the Treet is mostly chicken, not pork.
I would expect SPAM to have more fat as it is pork shoulder, ham, and PORK FAT.
I also keep about twenty cans of this in the emergency food locker, mainly because of the salt, and because of the long lasting date. The nice thing about it is you can add it to beans and the sodium flavors the entire pot without adding more sodium to it!

Just tried Treet because of this. My initial impression was a slight sweet pickle loaf flavor and the texture of cheap bologna. That being said ...I ate the whole can.

The moment he made the touch my meat joke, this whole video became a "I hear everything as an innuendo"

My college roommate got me hooked on Spam. Spam became the new Ramen lol... Low sodium Spam over white rice every now and then is my favorite guilty pleasure

Larry, I have had only Spam and that was decades ago. Enjoy the reviews because it is something I normally would not see. I'm amazed!  :)

I remember my Mother chopping this up with celery, mayo and hardboiled egg to make a salad to put on bread. I liked it then but not now. I remember it coming with a small metal key to open it with too.

I never heard of Treet. Maybe Spam is so popular in Hawaii that nobody wants to sell it.

I normally rinse off my spam, after I slice it, under cold water. Takes a good bit of that salt bite out. Also if you dip the knife in water before each slice it won't stick to the knife as bad.
