Watercolor Whitespace the Easy Technique

In this video, I share my technique for creating white space easily! This lifting technique with a paintbrush or a dry tissue is a great way to experiment with white space. Dabbing and letting the tissue (crumpled up) pick up and "lift" some of the paint creates a beautiful lightness and interest. Try it!

I thought it might be fun to offer a worksheet and practice painting available for you in my Etsy shop!
You watched me paint it, and I priced it very attractively for you!
What fun, right? Your purchase will help me and YOU! What's included?
* painting from tutorial signed dated and tutorial episode name
* my pre-recording swatch I created with colors for reference (all handwritten)
* more pre-work, showing brushstrokes, descriptions
These are all my behind-the-scenes notes and prework.
Every painting is on different papers, depending on what I was teaching, various sizes, and meant for supporting you, although it can be framed as well as a fun piece!

I love how you showed us exactly which strokes to practice before the painting of the flowers began! So helpful for us beginners. 😊

Fantastic. Thank you for taking the time to go through all the strokes before you started painting. Absolutely beautiful!

This is so gorgeous!! One of my favourite flowers. They’re like magnolias, they visit for a couple of days as blooms then are gone till next year.
I’ve tried to paint a freesia but had no idea that the buds and flowers are painted as wet on wet. You painted it in your gorgeous loose style yet it looks so ethereal; fragile yet strong.
Thank you again for taking the time to teach us in such a detailed, relaxed way. It’s a joy to watch your tutorials, I really look forward to them. With your videos there’s no cuts in the filming where you only get to watch the artist paint briefly before there’s a edit and the viewer suddenly sees only the completed painting. You also don’t speed up the filming. It’s so hard to learn anything when you can’t see the strokes being painted at normal speed. I’ve learned so much from you. I’m going to try painting a freesia tonight! 💕🎨🖌️

You are a really great teacher. Thanks so much 🙏 I have been practicing watercolor for about 3 years. Water control has been a long hard lesson. Just your simple explanation of dabbing the tip on the pan or a paper towel, to get excessive water off.👏👏 Even though I do know that now, nice to hear it expanded so nicely. 😊 I have gone back to watch and rewatch many of your tutorials.

Thank you Debbie for such a great tutorial. You explained everything perfectly and so thoroughly. I’m definitely going to try this tomorrow. You are so right about practicing the brush strokes over and over. I think that has been my main mistake. But thank you so much and I will practice, practice, practice!!!😍

Debbie. Did not get a video from you yesterday or today.
I went in and checked and I was NOT SUBSCRIBED ANYMORE😡
Youtube does strange things sometimes. I heard this has happened to other people, but this is a first time for me.
I subscribed again🖌💜🧡
