Heavy rainfall Thursday caused flash floods on Italy’s Elba Island. Intense rain recorded in central and western parts of the country severely impacted life, especially in Elba.
Severe flash floods have wreaked havoc on Elba Island, particularly affecting the main town of Portoferraio, where over 65 millimeters of rain fell within just one hour. Torrential rain battered central and western regions, with Elba’s Portoferraio hit hardest as streets turned into rivers, cars floated in floodwaters, and firefighters rescued 28 people trapped in mudslides, prompting urgent warnings from authorities.
