I think you exploration is wonderful, but could also deter people from using this system when it is ideal. It doesn’t need all the things because in the end it’s the words on the page, the cover, and simplicity that makes it beautiful. I’ve used this system with a month, week horizontally, and quarterly book since 2018. I begin with the end in mind-easy to archive, easy to reference info, and cheaper than the Hobonichi Cousin. It fits in all my bags, takes up little space on a restaurant table, and travels everywhere with me. This is an amazing, functional, cost effective method if you go with personal preferences (which you emphasized beautifully) and not try to duplicate what you see on IG. Good video, and good to see your thoughts from your perspective. I love that you share the idea of being sure to follow those who match your style.

Really enjoyed this video. This type of deep dive was exactly what I needed. The Traveler's notebook is something I should like in theory, but for some reason it doesn't call to me. I think it comes down to being a one book person and also how the insert don't lay flat.

First video of yours and thank you for the detailed review/advice on traveler's notebooks.
Just bought a grid passport insert to try out, and you gave some solid advice on to check out other creators that match our own style.
And as a beginner, you hit the nail on the head of being overhwelmed by the "mess" style of others and not having a bunch of supplies and being discouraged that mine won't come out like that.
I'll check more of your channel out!

Love your video! ❤ What a wonderful explanation and demonstration of Traveler’s Company notebooks! 😊 I started using mine last year, about 8 months ago… best decision ever! 😄 It’s definitely a fantastic & functional system, with infinite customisation options… 🥰📔 It inspires me to take better care of my mental & physical health 💃, get creative 🎨🖌️, take notes of my ideas & learning material 🧠 and even plan better! 📆

Oh my goodness what an informative video. I was on the fence about the Diner edition and almost spent over $200 for it. I realized after watching this video that I do not need it. I have a VDS for functional planning and it is chunky. I like Travelers company for its simplicity; a cover I can take everywhere I go. I like it for journaling/scrapbooking and capturing the days I wish to always remember. I want to make sure it does not turn out to be a functional/planning cover because I would have to enter things twice and who has time for that. My husband and I traveled to Paris in 2012 (way before I knew anything about Travelers Company or any method of memory keeping but we sure did keep every piece of ephemera. In 2013 we went to Italy (Venice, France and Rome) and went to several many other places in Europe every year until Covid. We stopped. A couple of years ago I separated all the ephemera by trip and now I have a cover to put it all in (I got the Tokyo edition) for our overseas travels. The idea of having a separate cover just for capturing those days I want to remember and look back upon is intriguing. You mentioned a place that does embossing (the video script mentions bom kuhan) but I cannot find anything on this. I would like one embossed. Can you assist with leading me to the right place please? Again, thank you for this video!

I totally agree with everything you said ! Except maybe you can use it as a planner with the dated monthly and weekly inserts. I LOVE my TN and always goes back to it but yes, it is expensive if you want it to be, it is a hobby for me, not just a planning/journaling system. But then again you can not get into the hype and buy what you need.
I use mine with a monthly, a weekly and a dotted insert (number 26) that I use as my everything (I have ADHD so my use may be different, I use it to write down how I feel, what I’m doing, what I need to do, any information I need to write down, idea…
I also use the same insert for memory keeping as I like going back to my inserts and reliving my life 😉
I have a code to categorize everything I write and it works perfectly ! As you said, you cannot refer to what you did or wrote weeks or months prior (One 26 insert lasts 1 month for me) so I have a separate reference planner where I write down everything I had categorized as info to keep before archiving my insert. It works great for me. Also I mainly use my phone calendar for my appointments so I can always go back in the calendar if need be.
I hope this video gets seen by begginers to journaling, memory keeping, planning… it is indeed very useful to avoid buying every system there is out there before finding the one that suits our needs (let’s face it… we all kinda buy every system there is out there ! 😂😂)

Thank you for such a a thorough dive. I love the lens you’ve taken here. I’ve known about the TN for quite some time now, but didn’t feel drawn to it until recently. A big part of it is Sterling Ink having the TN size in a compact version, which is perfect because I’m a one-book girlie (I found the Hobonichi Cousin too heavy as an EDC but the Weeks too small for my jampacked meeting schedules). I also got into fountain pens late last year, and am looking into using an undated monthly to use as an ink swatch book to supplement my set up. The choices for customization did overwhelm me a bit, though I just had to ground myself on what my intended purpose was for the TN.

I use a cut down stalogy in my TN cover, along with a pvc folder that I expanded the spine on to wrap my full year stalogy. It works wonderfully and I love having everything in one thicker notebook. So for those who want a standard stalogy and a midori cover, this is a perfect solution 👍😁❤️

Really well presented. I just haven’t been able to embrace the entire Travelers culture.

Useful video. The rustic nature of the TN cover and need to change the refills is what attracted me to this system. Haven’t found anyone who matches my style yet tho.

Thoroughly enjoyed your video. I think I’ve been through many stages with my Midori, and I still return to it’s simplicity and adaptability.

You nailed all the reasons for and against.
I wasn’t new to journaling but last year I decided 2024 would be the year I’ll seriously stick to it.
At the end of the day I feel in order to understand what you like and what you don’t you have to give it a try first. Which is what I did and it didn’t work for me but that’s okay at least I know now.
I can’t do too much freedom and too many inserts, I don’t like decorating and I need premade spaces to help me feel like I’m being consistent.
So since I don’t need much space, I’ve been using a hobonichi weeks for planning and a6 techo for daily journaling.

Thanks for this video. It was really helpful. I have been using the passport size which I love. Recently I bought the standard size and it is huge, so I’m still debating whether I have use for it. Your video had some good points. I’ve been looking at inserts and it sure can add up fast. Hmm! 🤔
