Countertenor Cameron Shahbazi, accompanied by pianist Sarah Tysman, gives a heartfelt performance of a gem of the Italian vocal repertoire. He brings lyrical expressiveness and wonderful breath control to the song’s long phrases. Pure and focused throughout, his tone conveys a sense of vulnerability at the heart of the piece, as the lyrics call on the “beloved” of the title to show mercy on an abandoned, despairing lover.
