Knife attacks are one of the scariest self defense situations you may ever have to face. The reality of knife defense and the techniques around defending against a knife attack are probably not what you.

Get started with learning the proper way to defend against a knife based upon real statistics with our free TRITAC Intro Course:

But - we all know that learning how to defend against a knife attack - especially a knife stab (prison style shanking) should be a top priority to a combat focused martial artist.

Fred Evrard of Kali Majapahit is one of the worlds leaders on knife defense techniques who works with the French Special forces and other private security groups for learning how to defend against knife attacks.

Fred shows that the knife stab with a grab to either push or pull accounts for 71% off all knife attacks.

He then shows you how to defend against these attacks with a 'mindless wall'.

imagine you mastered this for 50 years just to get stabbed in the back by a friend

I like your statistics on how most attacks go down and especially regarding the timing of movement and using less of your cognitive reactions in order to be more effective but if at 25 years of constant training will you only be at college level then most the people in that class (including myself) will be too old to able to defend against a fly at that point.

It is about time that someone is really telling the truth about realistic knife attack situations in the real world and street world. Thanks. This method makes sense.

The rules i have learned against knife attacks while im unarmed is RUN!!! (military friends who have dealth with knives in the service)
If running isn't an option. Every move must be to kill and maim if you think the opponent is fighting dirty...set a new low.
You are not fighting another human you are dealing with a creature that must be removed at any cost. Adrenline high, and no rules if you can rip their throat with your teeth do it the jugulars are on the sides close to the surface. Human teeth can do up to 75Kg of presure and many of the front teeth are made for tearing and ripping.
poke out eyes. break fingers. Easy targets first cause pain, cause fear. And for all that is about life hold nothing back.

the rest is for the aftermath. Right now you are trying to survive. nothing else matters.
as a defence after just say you panicked. So long as you don't have self defence training that is.

But that is just my two cents on the question. And i have ever only been threatned by a knife never attacked.

1. Do that in spar mode, full resistance, with ability to change a tactic and all that good stuff
2. For safety measures, use a marker
3. if marker stains are left on your body after that, this technique is useless.

bro, I probably don’t even need to be here, just my faith in humanity is at an all time low right now.

While I don't agree 100% with the techniques used, I do agree with what he's saying... He's right... Forget your brain and forget trying to plan things out... Either you act 100% on reflex the right way, or forget it and hope you can run...

I’m sure this was just the first step to a much more in depth system. I learned knife fighting in south central LA from gang members. This defense would do nothing because they do not attack like this with a knife. They first body check and then grapple and clench you tight up against their body first, before they pull the knife out and start stabbing in the kidneys, not the stomach. You think you are wrestling the guy to the ground but really he is stabbing your vital organs. You’ll never see the knife come out and you’ll just start feeling severe pain and won’t understand why until it’s too late.

Ok, so once you're blocking then what? You need to complete the lesson. How do you either drive through to escape or really hurt the attacker?

well done. it's so important to pay close attention to how knife attacks happen in the real world.

Good, but do not assume a knife attacker is "crazy" and will take 5 seconds to figure out he is not stabbing the victim.

I think this may have been the first (or maybe just one of the few) statistical evidence based approach self defense/martial arts technique. Practical, useful, rational, logical. Very cool! Thank you for sharing!

This is generally decent instruction. I like how he emphasizes the adrenal stress effects and simplifies the blocking motion to be compatible. I would like to see more of his lesson, but so far pretty good overall, for a basic intro to knife defense.

The best defense I saw work was a body kick to push the attacker back. If you can sustain that, it seems you can keep the distance enough to prevent major damage.

Sounds ok in theory but in a pressure tested scenario this is unlikely to work as you can not bank on him doing that exact attack and he will be doing many other variations of slashing and lunges too.

What he said about the psychology of fighting is true; when you're in fight or flight mode you can't think about anything too technical, so any technique that requires multiple steps goes right out of your head, especially if you're in fear for your life and you're getting stabbed. Keep it simple. Learn how to use weapons and have at least two weapons on you at all times. That way you'll drastically reduce the chances of ever having to be in this type of situation.

Itay is a nice guy. I really appreciate our friendship. He taught me my first lessons in Krav Maga.

It's great to see someone who actually looks at reality and the empirical data first and builds his SD around that rather than trying to make reality to conform to his art.
