In this video, we will look at the worst hyperinflation in history. It took place in post-war Hungary in 1945. At its peak inflation in Hungary peaked at 41,9 quadrillion percent, which is a massive hyperinflation.

We will also look at the post-war Hungary economy and also Hungary's history, as they play a big part in understanding Hungary's hyperinflation. We begin with 1918 when the Austro-Hungarian empire split up and Hungary had its first hyperinflation.

Then we move on to the end of world war 2, where Hungary has no choice but to print money as Hungary needs to pay a huge amount of war reparations. we will also explain the causes of hyperinflation and explain why hyperinflation is like a hidden tax, and when the trust in a currency is gone, then it is useless.

We also explain Hungary's stabilization plan that is influenced by Germany's hyperinflation in the 1920s. By doing both monetary and fiscal reform, Hungary managed to stabilize prices and regain the trust of the public. And that was the end of the greatest hyperinflation in history.

My grandparents told me stories about those times. They used cash as wallpaper, later they just burned cash to heat. Gold from melted down jewellery was used to buy things they needed. They tought me to never trust paper money, never trust the bank and always have some gold around.
