The singer-songwriter’s biggest hits resulted from time on a Nederland spread and his ranch near Pagosa Springs.

Back in the 70's I worked in an herb shop at the Green Mtn Grainery in Boulder and I remember Dan coming in quite often to buy herbs. He was a nice guy with no snooty pretensions. .

My Soulmate & I lived at 8000' in Left Hand Canyon during Dan's time in Nederland.. my neighbor Gene, was the builder who worked on Dan's cabin.. He showed us pics of the "Hobbit Hole" entrances to the bedrooms, etc. I have always related so deeply with his music.. My soulmate died Dec 1st, 1980, & Dan's song "Go Down Easy" was like it was written specifically for me, it resonated so deeply with my life alone in cabins in the mountains after Biff.

When people say we no longer produce great poets, I tell them they have evolved into great musicians. Then I point out Dan Fogelberg as the greatest example. I miss him greatly; he was my go-to music in the most important moments of my life. "Oh I've seen the bottom and I've been on top . . . but mostly I've lived in between; and where do you go when you get to the end of your dreams"?
Goodbye Dan. We loved you, but all too briefly.

Now the seasons are changing... from summer to fall
And I've still got that picture... hung on my wall
And there's so much forgotten... and too much recalled
And why did you..leave.... at all
Thank you Dan. You and your gifts are beyond MISSED!

Happy heavenly 71st birthday, Dan! You were one of the most prolific yet underrated singer-songwriters of our generation. You deserved better.

From the moment I heard Dan in 1975 I was hooked. It was like he met my soul and put it on paper. I never had a chance to see him in person....a truth that still hurts. But I did make a solo trip from Maryland to Peoria, 3 years after his death, to the dedication of his memorial. That first weekend celebration (Friday through Sunday) established the original "DanFam". And we felt like family. I met Jean, his widow, and Maggie, his mom. It was a bitter sweet experience. On my way home on Sunday afternoon, I drove through his childhood neighborhood and found his home ( I had once seen a picture of it). Out of respect for the Fogleberg family I stopped my car, but did not get out to take a picture of my own. I silently paid my respects to all that made the man, and the artist, that I greatly loved and admired. I pointed my car east and headed back to my own home, playing Dan's music all the way.... just me and Dan.

Dan Fogelberg SO deserves a full-length documentary. Same Old Lang Syne is my all time favorite Christmas song.♥

So awesome he was! Great musical artist! Underrated, but he achieved great success and did it his way! He left us too soon, sadly...But may he be in joyful song on the other side!

Love his music. My only sibling, my brother, passed away 11/1/17 from lung cancer. He was a non smoker. His 2 sons sang Leader of the Band at his Funeral Mass. Not sure how they got through it, but it was a beautiful tribute. 😥❤

Listened to Leader of the Band, for years. Never knew it was of his dad. Fitting tribute. This artist is PHENOMINAL. Both with a pen and a guitar.

I grew up about 40 minutes west of Peoria, IL in a rural area and when I first heard "Part of the Plan" I knew that getting all of his music would be part of my plan. I got to see him "live" three times over the years including in Peoria and Indianapolis - two times solo and once with a band. My wife worked as a coronary care nurse in Peoria when his father was there and she said he always caused "quite a stir" when he came to see his father. I liked the various genres of his music and always felt that any song on one of his albums was a potential hit - never any "space fillers" on his records. I know this video couldn't include everything, but they left out one of my favorite slices of his music - his two duet albums with Tim Weisberg - both chocked full of great music. "Longer" was one of the songs sung and played at our wedding and I still listen to his music a lot - I always will.

I became a fan the very first time I heard "There's A Place In The World For A Gambler", around 1977, and proceeded to buy every album he released all the way till his last. He influenced me in so many ways as a musician, a writer, and in a lot of ways as a person. He was an incredible musician a beautiful vocalist, and an amazing songwriter. I always felt he was a thinker's lyricist, using a serious articulation to convey his meaning. I was heartbroken when he passed and to this day, I can't listen to any of his music without getting emotional.

To the post below....He was an outstanding songwriter and musician. His music will last for the ages. His wonderful wife Jean continues to hold and share his wonderful legacy as an artist. You will find that she produced a live double album that is just outstanding the digital quality puts him right in your home as if hes there with you! I have communicated with Jean....she is just outstanding. Many of his devoted fans, his family, his dedicated musician friends and management, we all lost a precious loving person who shared his gift to last a millennium. Carry on!
