I don't get how that mess up could even occur, he was a WWII veteran who fought the Russians. Even someone with the most basic knowledge of WWII would be able to tell you who he probably fought for.

The idea that our speaker accidentally invites a nazi, honours him (while appearing to literally recognize his error in the moment) and then gets replaced by our first black speaker, as appointed by our PM who literally painted his face black so many times that we aren’t even sure if we’ve seen them all yet, and that this is actually real life and not a brilliantly written satire about politics is the saddest and yet most accurate representation of the joke our government has become that I have ever seen.

Montserrat fairly recently (past decade or so) had a massive volcanic event that rendered 2/3 of the island uninhabitable, and its population plummeted. That volcano had made it an absolutely gorgeous place, with much more topographic interest than most small Carribean islands. I know all this only because I’ve been on a geography kick and I can now label every territory on earth if given a map, highly recommended if you’re in need of some procrastination

A really important detail that I feel is missing here is the Speaker did specifically mention that he fought against the Soviets in WWII before the standing ovation. That should have sent alarm bells to people in the room. If you’re fighting the Soviets that really only leaves one other option as to who you supported.
