We bought DVC at inception of the program many, many years ago for a little over $8K (Boardwalk Villas just outside Epcot entrance). We sold last year (kids all grown, not using as much as we used to) and we made three times what we paid for it and it sold within an hour of listing. The program was worth it for us. It isn't all about Disney. We've gone on cruises, including our Wedding cruise, where we were married on Disney's private island and paid for on points and Disney took care of all our flowers and food for us. We've traded it for RCI locations all over the world. There are discounts and perks that are great to have as well. It isn't just about Disney and the program can be used that way as your family grows. Moving from toddlers who love the characters, to teens and young adults on cruises to adult children, using points for extended family vacations elsewhere.

I’d add, it may be financially worth it IF you don’t have to finance it. Any benefit gets quickly sucked up at 10-13 percent interest.

Hi, we did buy a small 50 point resale Poly contract to gain access to the new Tower. We now own 410 Points total, AK, Riviera, and Poly. I really enjoyed your calculations. They look similar to mine, but I did not have the off property comparison. It is always good to see your purchase validated. Thanks,

Thank you SO MUCH for the charts and the breakdown!! So from this video and other research, I do know this is something that WOULD financially benefit my family...in the long run...as we visit WDW in deluxe hotels every year ( I have my spreadsheets with dates and locations and pricing to try and get the best deals). Thank you again for covering this...might be the push I needed to revisit DVC and make a pros and cons list and now include over the years of the contract to show how much $$$ could be saved! Truly appreciate your help :)

As for the Poly Tower, since we already own at VGF, the Poly being another monorail property would be redundant.

If you're already paying cash rates for hotels in and around Disney World at least once a year or every two years and you plan on doing so for years to come then definitely look into DVC. Not only will you have much better accommodations inside the bubble you'll actually be saving a lot of money. And keep in mind as the years go by hotel rates climb exponentially, while DVC dues only average 3.5% increase year-over-year. So theoretically you're hedging those accommodation rates and locking them in. Remember Art of Animation used to be about $100/150 a night on average and now it's about $300 a night on average. A DVC member will not see increases like that ever over the life of their contract.

We do WDW once every 2 years and looking at 150-200 points to get us minimum of a 1 BR for a week+ every 2 years. We met with a DVC agent at Riviera Saturday and came away wanting to wait until Island Tower becomes available. We were underwhelmed walking into the damn noisy lobby at Riviera. Sure it’s new and shiny, but not welcoming. The studios and the 1-2 bedroom rooms were exceptional though. I could look beyond the lobby issue, but only if the Poly tower doesn’t blow me away. We loved our cast member/agent too. Fingers crossed.

As a DVC member I think it’s worth every penny.

I was trying to decide between direct and resale…I’m only interested in staying at the Poly, split stays don’t matter much, can you throw out any thoughts?

It’s kind of a cop out, but only you can decide if DVC is worth it for you.

Not adding in the 3-5% yearly increase in dues while taking about a 42yr product is CRAZY!!... This could amount to anywhere from 120k-200k+ not 60k..

Your yearly dues will be more than doubled by year 30.

It looks like it would be worth it if you can pay for the points without financing. Doing the math for 100 points it went from 24k roughly to about 41k after the ten year loan is paid off. 😅 plus your yearly dues on top of that!

Just kind of strange
