How to Survive a Fire, According to Science

It can happen to anyone. It can happen anytime. Millions of fires are reported across the world every year. In the United States alone, a house fire breaks out roughly every minute on average. But life-saving decisions are made within seconds. So how can you buy yourself more time?

The video didn't mention this, but when you check the door you should make sure to use the back of your hand instead of your palm. You do not want the palm of your hand to be burned, especially during a fire.

As a firefighter, I'd recommend kids tossing toys out their window. We'll see it on a perimeter check and will direct primary search teams to head for that area of the building. We'll also try to locate people who got out and ask if anyone is still inside (yes, that includes pets). I've taken pets out of house fires as well. I tell my kids how to get out and to stay out but never come looking for me. Their goal is to get to safety. Obviously, my goal is also their safety so I'll look for them before I get out, but doing anything but reaching safety shouldn't be on their minds. Stay low, check for heat, and always know escape routes even in pitch black. Know how many stairs you have? Count them. Know about how far down a wall your window or door is? Check it by feeling for them. Do this before you are forced to do it under pressure.

Also note. Practice doing these things with your eyes closed! The smoke fills quickly and makes it impossible to see! It can very disorienting and people often get lost and trapped in their own houses because they can’t find their way out

A fire started in our microwave once. My brother and I ran out into the apartment halls but our mom stayed in the unit. The firefighters told us we did the right thing by getting out of the unit.

My first motive if there was a fire is find my cats and make sure they get out alive, my life comes second.

If my cat was in a fire imma get her back I would let everything burn but NOT her if she were to be in the Indian ocean I would get her back I can't swim but I will force myself to get her back to safety she will live with or without me say what u want but I WOULD DO IT FOR MY CAT.
