After my parents suffered a surge at their house that wiped out half of their electronics, I installed surge protectors on everything.

I’ve been in hvac for 18 years, this is definitely not a bad thing, but as long as the unit is fused you’re good. Only time any phase or surge protection is really needed is when you’re dealing with very large equipment that could cost you many tens of thousands of dollars in repairs. Cool concept I guess, but not needed for a residential style unit, in my opinion.

The surge protectors protects the $30 capacitor that lasts about 9 years. How much does that surge protector cost? It looks like about $58.

Would putting a protector on the main load center work better? Seems like that would protect everything on the breaker box, not just the AC. I still like the idea either way...never hurts for extra safety!

I am a EE, need to protect your power. You need to use battery backup UPS for your computer, TV, internet. You need to get a whole house generator.

Maybe that minisplit is $1500 😂 BTW those surge protectors have been know to cause issues.

Surge protectors are useless. You need a voltage monitoring protection like ICM493
