What were we made for ? To know God.
What aim should we set ourselves in life ?
To know God.
What is the "eternal" life that Jesus gives ?
Knowledge of God. This is eternal life:
That they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent"  
John 17:3 (KJV)  And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

What is the best thing in life, bringing more joy, delight and contentment  than anything else ? Knowledge of God.
This is what the LORD says;' Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts  boast about this:that he understands and knows me '

 Jeremiah 9:23-24 (KJV)  Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:
But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.

What, of all the states, God sees man in gives God most pleasure?
Knowledge of himself. 

 Hosea 6:6 (KJV)  For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
