Recovery efforts continue in George

Emergency services are continuing with recovery efforts in George,
Western Cape, following the collapse of a building that was under
construction on Monday.

So far, seven people have been confirmed dead with more than 20 people
recovered from the rubble.

Please ask the premier why the Western Cape did not accept the offer of assistance from the Gauteng Urban Search and Rescue Team, who is the only team in Sub-Saharan Africa with UN international classification. Gauteng offered assistance within 2 hours of the incident and have been on Standby for 24 hours, yet Western
Cape instead chose to not use the offered assistance. The rescue response could have been doubled, with the possibility of many more lives being saved. Why were people left to die, in the rubble, when additional rescuers and resources were available immidiately. To date, assistance from Gauteng had been shown away, while people die in the rubble.

The only way that this building could have collapsed is if they skimped on materials (reinforcing etc). With so many stages to be signed off by inspectors, this is unlikely to be the case. There is the possibility that the ground was unstable (was there ever mining in the area, ) We shall have to wait and see, Condolences to everyone involved and and may those killed rest in peace. Just tragic.

What happened when they were still building the second floor? Its alleged that inspection was done when it was unstable that time already and they continued anyway? Why wont they name the construction engineer that was there at that time?

They just gave a full media briefing where they gave journalists a chance to ask questions and gave a full explanation on the building inspecting process and licensing and all the technical stuff. Now the media briefing is over and this journalist wants to ask the same questions again. The mayor has important work to do, stop wasting his time by trying to look good and making him regurgitate everything again, I mean you just cornered him and did not even ask for his permission. Very unprofessional and you should be mindful and respectful of the situation. Shameless.
