Pen Parlor: Lamy 2000 Fountain Pen

I decided I needed to replace my fountain pen with a better model. It won't do to have a pen that lasts for a couple of days before drying out completely.

After using this one for a while, I can safely say it does not have that problem.

The great man himself uploading like a maniac. I am not worthy for your generosity.

I really enjoy your whimsical musings as you narrate your videos. Not only is it very relaxing, your singsong voice is a pkeasure to listen to, as is your pronounciation of English words. I am a huge fan.

I have no idea why as i've watch tonnes of pen review videos, but this was one of the most entertaining haha

Soft metals such as gold add "springiness" to the nib, so that the teeth of the nib separate a bit when pressure is applied. This phenomenon is one of the elements that makes fountain pens have variable line width. Add a bit of pressure, get a thicker line. Steel nibs don't do this quite as well (although more recent steel nibs are amazing writers on their own merit)

EDIT: Also, get yourself some Rhodia dot pads. Writing with a fountain pen on quality paper adds to the experience. Mass market (at least American) paper bleeds and ghosts too much.

Thanks for putting up with a bit of a blurry video. =)

I'm rapidly hitting my head against the limits of the DSLR I'm using. It's just not quick on the uptake, so far as focusing is concerned. It works for demoing a hefty machine that's not liable to move, but finer details like pens or anything requiring a deeper depth of field is just not coming out well.

No offense, honestly. But your wonky handwriting makes me happy inside.

This is because you are very smart. Very well spoken and educated, however you're handwriting is like mine. People can be relatively intelligent whilst still having poor handwriting. Again. I respect you and your videos. Thank you for this and unintentionally help me feel better about myself.

That moment where you opened the ink jar was so satisfying! Keep the relaxing and informative videos coming!

This is one of your vids I hadn't seen. YT suggested it, and I said, why not. I love your subtle humor and your way with language, not to mention the ASMR quality of your voice.

That's the wonderful aspect to fountain pens - you can write & draw along with the best, & certainly, art is a subjective matter. In terms of the fountain pen that was replaced by this Lamy 2000, if you'd care to send it across the sea (unless you're already in the UK), I'll strip it down & clean it thoroughly for you.
Slan agus beannacht !

Lamy 2k is known to be picky about rotation of the nib (called a sweet spot). Your skips and hard starts might decrease with a more forgiving pen.

On the other hand, if you learn to hold the pen well, your writing will improve. Just write often. I'm a programmer too, and big picture stuff / prototyping is well worth doing with pen and paper alone. Our minds associate certain places with certain activities, and writing code can give real tunnel vision, and is slower than protyping ideas in your head without the distractions of small errors as you iterate.

Great video. Question - if subscribers sent cool stuff to you (pens, calculators, other unique/quirky gadgets)…would you be open to doing an “unboxing” video like this one? At least that way you aren’t paying for the product…just saying! :D

I have to say, that Parket Quink is one of the worst-behaved inks in Lamy and Pelikan pens. The ink is rather dry, while these pens are wet writeres. Try a Pelikan ink or a Lamy ink in there. You'll notice the difference. Also paper - Tomoe river if you are in the US, Clairefontaine/Rhodia in Europe.

There's a channel called Peter Draws where he does reviews of fountain pens as well as drawing and such, if you find that stuff interesting you should check it out!
