I wish they’d give us 4K 60 in cinematic mode.

I also wish they’d finally give us manual photo and video control. It’s ridiculous that they haven’t and yet they put so much emphasis on people using iPhone for creating.

Thank you so much for addressing the lack of cinematic pro res/log. Why not pack that in as a feature with such a lack of new features? So easy to do. Cinematic mode isn't that bad when the f stop is higher. Just give it a touch of bokeh and you won't see a bad cutout and it'll give it just enough of that less sharpened real camera look. It'd be perfect.

i have iphone 15 pro and they have removed 3x on cinematic mode. the device use the 24mm lens and not the 77mm on 2 and 3x, so the quality is ugly.
also in normal mode video, the device changes lens if there is not much light, so videos are ugly again in 3x. im using black magic app, so i lock 77mm lens on every video i capture.
but im still missing cinematic mode. maybe i will go back to iphone 14 pro.

I messed around with cinematic mode a couple times, but like the portrait mode, I found the results pretty crap. If they could dial it in so the cutouts looked like real shallow depth of field then I might use it, but they don’t seem like they’re able to get it right.

Also, for me, the ProRes video is essential now. Not because of ProRes, but because it removes all their sharpening and crap that makes the video look bad. I don’t care about blurring the background, I just care about image quality

Lately I've been using cinematic mode for non pro work and for social media stuff. I do prefer the output over the standard video although sometimes I have to turn down the fake bokeh due to the choppy cut out. I like it.

pro-res apple log in cinematic mode would be cool and it's something I'd like to see. Especially as the processor/chips get even faster.

I'm assuming since this has allowed enough speed for 4k120 that maybe it would be a more improved cinematic mode since it can process a lot more a lot faster.

Yeah... I'm really disappointed that they didn't include 60fps in cinematic mode. I use it a lot for professional, budget-friendly projects, and it's actually very useful—to the point that I hardly ever shoot regular video anymore.

I love cinematic mode. Added a ND filter and is was more than enough for a “family holiday video”. I was also hoping for Prores cinematic mode 60fps (with lut previews). So I will skip the upgrade of my 15 promax till apple will do it (or Apple will cancel cinematic mode)

The research and development department at apple doesn't work full time either.
They are being too complacent and most of the customer base is absolutely ok with it

Thank you for literally being the only one to talk about this. I keep hoping for more development there.

I will say that I get a sense that cinematic holds up better on 15 pro more than it did 14. I'll be upset if it's gone on the 16, but it would be strange to remove something you reference even if it's a one second mention. If I were Apple and wanted to get rid of a feature, I feel like I wouldn't reference it.

It's a very useful mode for me and I use it often. It's only sometimes that I have to abandon the effect, but the great things about it, is that sometimes when the effect doesn't work well, you don't have to give up on the shot.

My wish list is:
1. Log profile
2. Cleaner look of the shallow depth
3. And if you have time, at least 60fps.

On another note, am I the only one underwhelmed by the 16?

When you do the next lens comparison video you might consider using the 15 instead of the 16, because I doubt there are cases and cages available for the new 16 Pro and Pro Max
