Varomix Trix - Export Houdini Particles to Maya using Arnold

Welcome to Varomix Trix, in this series I'll show you tricks that I've learned along the way in my career, some are really simple but I think all of them will be useful.

In this lesson we'll learn how to Export Houdini native particles to Maya using the very cool Arnold Renderer, this is a great option since Arnold comes by default with Maya and you might already have your pipeline using it.

hey! I follow step by step the tutorial (and official docs) and as soon as I hit "Render to Disk" a it pops up a window showing how it's exporting the sequence but I just get a single and heavy unknown file (not .ass) am I missing something? do you know any workaraounds? Thank you!

This is Good, But, I instanced some geometry in houdini using instance sop, now I can see all the instance geo list in maya procedural outliner, can we combine them as a single geo? I tried deleting the name attrib, but still no luck!

My Houdini version is 17.5.258 and in the Arnold node I don't have the Archive tab. Has that changed since the verison You are using?

Can we import .ass data into Houdini, I have my scene exported into .ass from maya and want to import into houdini.
Is that possible to do that and how??

Advice: Do not use shaders in /shop. Instead, build arnold shaders in a material network (/mat), and also assign the material from Houdini's Render tab at the object level (Not from the Arnold tab)
