Remember folks, you need deep pockets to buy one and deeper pockets to keep it running.

Porsche engineers really hate mechanics

porsche tech here, we dont remove the intercoolers for changing spark plugs. We just remove the rear wheels, fender liner, and the heat shields blocking the ignition coils. The only time we do remove the intercoolers is if we're doing spark plugs on the turbo, trubo s, or gt2rs

If I remember correctly, the engine has to be removed to change the spark plug on the AMG SLR. When installed, you can't get to the ignition coils and spark plugs due to the CFRP frame. So it's quite normal for a sports car with a special layout of the powertrain.

I just did this job today the algorithm is insane😂

Removing the intercoolers and rear apron is only required on Turbo/Turbo S models. Carrera, S and GTS (yes they still have turbos) do not require any of that. The coils can be snuck out. Workshop manual does not state R&I of intercoolers. 2.5 hours for these, 6.5 hours for Turbo/Turbo S.

Same work on my Boxster S except there are no intercoolers in the way, and the bumper doesn’t have to be pulled. In the end, it’s still a regular combustion engine that is simple to work on, on this Porsche, it’s the packaging that is required when you go into the higher models. It’s a simple removal of components.
You pay to play at this level.

Honestly, this is a super sports car that can also be used for everyday use. Please compare it with a Ferrari or Lamborghini and their costs and effort during maintenance. Suddenly, the Porsche is a special offer. Anyone who compares these vehicles with American monotony or inexpensive Japan cars has no idea of the technical sophistication that lies in these cars.

Damn the 9A2 apparently made this harder. 9A1 991.1 it is relatively easy to do the spark plugs, bumper cover still comes off for air filters tho.

Hope it’s not warranty work, knowing that it will only pay 1 hr 😂

That, and topping off the fluids: $2000.56😮😅

I think it was about 10 minutes for Brandon to remove the bumper

Thats too bad, a first gen cayman is a dream to work on, the engineers were really thinking about us

Reminds me of the stupidity of the Fiero 6-cylinder. You had to drop the engine to access the plugs. Amazing.

And people say Subaru spark plugs suck to do.

That mechanic probably drives a 90s Honda just so he can have some peace when he gets off work

Iridium plugs just delay the inevitable.
